Year 2 have been investigating moving mechanisms. To do this they have created some really beautiful background images of stormy seas which relate to their learning about the story of Grace Darling and her heroic rescue of stranded sailors many years ago.
To do this the children use white oil pastels to resist the watercolour paint that they applied.
They used their tonal skills to blend the colours for their backgrounds.
Some of the scenes were really stormy!
Once the backgrounds were completed and dried they were then able to add their lighthouse's which they drew on paper using pencil crayons and outlined using black felts.
To create the movement in their pictures Grace was dawn on paper and stuck onto a lollipop which was then inserted in a slit in the scenery.
There were some great facial expressions!!

Once attached ...Grace was free to row backwards and forwards.
The difference between each design was wonderful...thank year 2 for all your hard work!
