Thieves Of The Seas!

Year 2 have had a fabulous start to their first topic Thieves Of The Seas...
They were visited by a real life pirate Captain Burwash! He told them thrilling stories about the many famous pirates including the infamous 'Blackbeard'.
The children looked amazing in their many costumes and we were delighted by the huge turn out of parents who came to support their children's learning. Thank you! Together they created some truly terrifying 'Jolly Roger' flags which included flames, blood and menacing skulls. Eek!
The children were able to handle many replica items from an age long past including muskets and cannonballs!
They were then able to draw portrait pictures of Captain Burwash and create wanted posters for his new crew. It was a truly fantastic experience for the children which has no doubt created some truly memorable moments for them.

Wriggle and Crawl quilling Art project

During the busy SAT's period, Miss Williams ran an art project linked to our Wriggle and Crawl topic in 2F and 2WG. 
Children learned how to 'quill' successfully using quilling tools.  They started the project by investigating the different shapes they could create using the special paper strips. Then they sketched their insects and chose their favourite to quill.

Releasing the butterflies!

So our chrysalides have finally hatched into beautiful butterflies. 
What a journey they've had through their life cycle!
Y2 have kept caterpillar diaries and have monitored their growth over the past few weeks.  Here they are getting ready to fly.  Release pictures in Welford Woods to follow!

2F testing the suitability of different materials in Science.

Have you ever tried to sit on a chair made out of sand? Or a table made from jelly? Or wear a jumper made out of spaghetti? Or read a book made from ice? Or look through windows made out of chocolate? Well that's exactly what we tested today and we had lots of fun learning about materials and their properties. We've never laughed so much!

As part of our work on 'Earwig and the witch' we made our own potions.  2WG cooked up all sorts of horrible potions (most to turn Mrs Gallagher into something unpleasant!) using authentic witches ingredients.  What a grisly grimy mess we made and how much fun we had doing it too! 


We wrote our ingredients down as we mixed, bubbled and stirred and later wrote our spell instructions down so we anyone can make them.

Getting Arty!

Serious concentration in class today as 2WG bring their castle designs to life! 


We have designed on paper first, deciding what features to include and the best materials to use.  Then we began drawing out our designs and selecting the materials from our enormous stockpile of cardboard.


Today has been all about sticking, joining and painting.  The final step, when they are dry, will be to add details to the surfaces.  We have been really enjoying our design project and can't wait to show off our finished pieces.
