Alive, never been alive and dead.

Year 2 had a super afternoon (in the eventual sunshine!) hunting for living creatures and plants. They were also challenged to find objects that had never been alive and that were now dead.

Armed with clipboards and much enthusiasm they set off!

Working in pairs and groups of 4 they began hunting in earnest.

All finds were recorded carefully.

Always grateful for a helping hand from a friend ...or back!

Playground equipment ...parts were once alive..

Iusua was very excited to discover crocus for the first time.

As was Sharmake and Hafsah.

That kept happening!

Super team work in 2F.

Haroon was really chuffed to find daffodiles.

Woodlice!!! Very alive!!!!

Ahmed was thrilled to find a worm under a log...definitely alive and wriggling!

Unfortunately we discovered some litter which has definitely never  been alive.. and quickly removed and recycled as much as possible.

Seeds..

Rope..

Woven branches

Leaves ...once alive...

Metal playground equipment....definitely never been alive.

All of the chidren's results were carefully collected in and then recorded in their science books. Well done Year 2. A great afternoon !

Money Money Money!!

Year 2 recently had a visit from HSBC . The children were shown a range of coins and notes ...including the recently released new polymer 20 pound note. They were asked a range of  challenging mathematical questions and were given the chance to design a possible £100 pound note for the Queen's 93rd birthday. Great fun was had by all!

Jack and the Beanstalk ...D.T...Pull Tab

This term in year 2 the children will be creating pull tab images using the theme Jack and the Beanstalk. The aim being to create a climbing Jack up a beanstalk.
In a previous lesson children created toned colour backgrounds, using watercolours, for this current piece of work. In this lesson they began to embellish their picture using collage.

Cutting skills were developed.

Folding skills were required.

The children were really impressed with their designs!

Zeeshan was very pleased with himself and his design!

Next step to add a climbing Jack which will be created using coloured crayons and felt tips.

Super Smooth Smoothies!

Year 2 have been looking at instructions and in particular ghow to make a healthy fruit smoothie. The children have been looking at the story of 'The Billy Goats Gruff', in relation to the their current topic ...Once Upon  A Time.
The children were hoping to convince the troll to become vegetarian  and to possibly give up eating goat!

As whole classes the children watched how to make a strawberry and banana smoothie.

They used their maths skills to divide fruit into quarters.

Also which fruits can be eaten with the skin off or on.

The mixture was blended until it was very smooth..

The children were then given the opportunity to sample the smoothie..

Going down well!

We just hope the troll likes it more than billy goat !!
The next step now is independent writing using the plans they have created.
